MAGNESIUM OXIDE POWDER, RESIN COMPOSITION INCLUDING SAME, AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING MAGNESIUM OXIDE POWDER

[Problem] To provide: a magnesium oxide powder which has excellent hydration resistance and for which volume expansion and the like due to hydration does not tend to occur; a resin composition including the same; and a method for producing the magnesium oxide powder. [Solution] The magnesium oxide powder has, as a surface layer, an overlying layer based on basic magnesium carbonate. The magnesium oxide powder is characterized in that in thermal evolved gas analysis (EGA-MS), the molar ratio represented by m-CO2/(m-H2O+m-CO2) is in a range of 0.3 to 0.6 where the amount of water vapor and carbon dioxide among gases generated by pyrolysis at 50 to 500°C is m-H2O and m-CO2, respectively.
