PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surge absorber having higher surge resistance by suppressing damages of a trigger electrode, and having an extended lifetime. SOLUTION: This surge absorber is equipped with an insulating substrate 10, discharge electrodes 12, 13 disposed face to face through a discharge gap 11 on one surface 10A of the insulating substrate 10 and formed up to the respective different end sides 10b, 10c of the insulating substrate 10, and a lid body 15 disposed on the periphery part of the insulating substrate 10 including the base end parts of the discharge electrodes 12, 13 to form a discharge space 14 in the upper part of the insulating substrate 10. The discharge electrodes 12, 13 have the trigger electrodes 21, 22 the tips of which face the discharge gap 11, and main discharge electrodes 23, 24 connected to the trigger electrodes 21, 22 while extending up to the end sides 10b, 10c of the insulating substrate 10. The trigger electrodes 21, 22 coat at least a part of the main discharge electrodes 23, 24, and between the contact parts 21b, 22b brought into contact with the main discharge electrodes 23, 24, their cross-sections in the vicinity of the end parts of the main discharge electrodes 23, 24 are larger than the tip parts 21a, 22a.
