An electrically heated smoking system (101) for receiving an article (115) configured for use with the smoking system is also provided. The system comprises: a cavity (111) for receiving the article having identification information encoded thereon, a heating element, a power supply for supplying power to the heating element, electrical hardware connected to the power supply and the heating element, and a detector (203) capable of detecting the presence of the article (115) in the cavity (111) and distinguishing the article from other articles, based on the identification information. |
