PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing device, a region detection method, and a computer program capable of appropriately detecting a region where a document image should be cut out from a readout image.SOLUTION: An image processing device 20 comprises: an estimated background region extraction unit 201 that extracts an estimated background region estimated that the background is taken, from an input image; a threshold decision unit 202 that decides a threshold on the basis of pixels in the estimated background region; an edge pixel extraction unit 204 that extracts an edge pixel from the input image by using the threshold; and a document region detection unit 215 that detects a document region from the edge pixel.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
