PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a message display device capable of optimizing the display time of a message for display. SOLUTION: The message display device for displaying a message on a display device capable of displaying a character sequence consisting of a predetermined number of characters includes a message data storage means in which the character sequence data of the message for display is stored for every language in use; a language selection means for selecting and setting the language used in the display of the message; a reading means for reading from the message data storage means and upon the detection of the need to display the message the character sequence data of the language for use that is set by the language selection means; a character counting means for counting characters in the character sequence data read; a calculation means for calculating the display time of the character sequence data by multiplying the number of characters by a constant determined for every language used; and a display control means for displaying the character sequence data on the display device and deleting the character sequence data on display when the display time is exceeded.
