PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely protect an occupant in the event of not only a traveling directional impact but also a side or vertical impact by setting the threshold for level discriminating the physical quantity concerning the traveling directional impact variably in accordance with the physical quantity concerning either one of side and vertical impacts. SOLUTION: The output from acceleration sensors 2, 3, 4 is inputted to a processing circuit 1, and the output from satellite sensors 5, 6 for detecting a side collision is also imparted thereto. The processing circuit 1 operates an occupant protecting means 7 in the collision of a vehicle. The occupant protecting means 7 comprises a starting means such as squib which is fired in reply to an air bag and a control signal to instantaneously fill gas into the air bag. The air bag is provided within a steering wheel provided on a driver's seat and within a front-passenger seat front panel to prevent the secondary collision of the driver and the front seat passenger within a cabin in the event of the vehicle collision. According to this, in not only a front collision but also various irregular collisions, the occupant protecting operation by the occupant protecting means can be surely performed. |
