To enable servo information to be written in a high performance HDD having fast rotation speed and high recording density properties, as well as assure the reliability of the HDD for reading/writing data. A center pad (53a) of a slider (3a) is formed as a line-symmetrical shape in the width direction. The shape of the center pad is a typical example of such the line-symmetry; a side of the center pad, which faces a leading edge (10), is formed linearly almost in parallel to the leading edge (10).
