PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compatibly suppress torque fluctuation and suppress HC emission by accurately determining lean-burn limit not to vary a combustion condition. SOLUTION: This control device for an internal combustion engine determines whether combustion is appropriate normal combustion, partial combustion or rapid combustion for each combustion in each cylinder in steady operation (for example cold fast idling). Based on the determination result, frequency of occurrence of partial combustion and rapid combustion to normal combustion is calculated.
