PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glycerol-containing functional fluid as an alternative organic anti-wear agent for use in tractor hydraulic fluid that maintains the protection of gears at slow speeds.SOLUTION: In a first embodiment, the functional fluid is provided that comprises: a major amount of oil of lubricating viscosity; and an oil-soluble amount of glycerol carbonate or oil-soluble amount of borated glycerol. In a second embodiment, the functional fluid is provided that is identical to the functional fluid in the first embodiment except that the major amount of oil of lubricating viscosity is 50 wt.% or more, the glycerol carbonate is a glycerol carbonate of more than about 0.1 wt.%, preferably, the oil-soluble amount of glycerol carbonate is 0.15 wt.% or more, the borated glycerol is a borated glycerol of more than 0.1 and 0.5 or less wt.%, and the oil-soluble amount of borated glycerol is 0.15 wt.% or more. In a third embodiment, the functional fluid is provided that is identical to the functional fluid in the first embodiment except that the functional fluid contains at least one detergent, and preferably, the detergent is a low overbased sulfonate detergent, a medium overbased sulfonate detergent, a high overbased sulfonate detergent or a non-sulfonated detergent.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
