<p>To provide a negative electrode material for a nonaqueous lithium type electricity storage element that has high energy density, high output and superior durability, and tto provide he nonaqueous lithium type electricity storage element which uses the material. ! The negative electrode material for the nonaqueous lithium electricity storage element is a compound porous material, obtained by having a carbon material bond with the surface of activated carbon, and satisfies the relations: 0.010<=Vm1<=0.250, 0.001<=Vm2<=0.200, and 1.5<=Vm1/Vm2<=20.0, where Vm1 represents a mesopore amount (cc/g) originating from pores of 20 to 500 Å in diameter, calculated by a BJH method of the composite porous material, and Vm2 represents a micropore amount (cc/g) that originates from pores of <20 Å calculated by an MP method. !
