PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide new styrenesulfonic acid lithium that prevents cost increase and its polymerization caused by being dried at a temperature of 40°C or higher under atmospheric or reduced pressure and does not contain impurities such as lithium chloride of a specified amount or more.SOLUTION: An aqueous solution of lithium hydroxide and an aqueous solution of β-bromoethylbenzene sulfonic acid to which styrenesulfonic acid lithium is added are reacted at 60°C or higher and then styrenesulfonic acid lithium is added as a seed crystal at a temperature of 40°C or higher to produce styrenesulfonic acid lithium having a lithium chloride content of 0.2 wt.% or less and a lithium sulfate content of 2.0 wt.% or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 |
