PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a load determination device for determining an illumination load and lighting on it to determine that an illumination load is an organic EL and to light on it with a predetermined rated driving voltage.SOLUTION: The load determination device 1 includes an illumination load 4; a voltage applying unit 3 for applying a voltage to the illumination load 4; a connection unit 5 for connecting the illumination load 4 and the voltage applying unit 3; a detection unit 6 for detecting a current flowing through the illumination load 4 when a voltage is applied to the illumination load 4 from the voltage applying unit 3 via the connection unit 5; and a determination unit 7 for determining a type of the illumination load 4 based on the detection result. The determination unit 7 has a comparator for comparing a detection value detected by the detection unit 6 with a predetermined threshold. The determination unit 7 determines that the illumination load 4 has a capacitive component based on an output of the comparator. The voltage applying unit 3 lights on the determined illumination load 4 with a predetermined rated driving voltage. Thereby, an organic EL4a having a capacitance component as the illumination load 4 can be determined and can be lighted on with the predetermined rated driving voltage.
