As a microwave spark plug (1) for injecting microwave energy into a combustion chamber of an engine, a microwave spark plug (1) according to the present invention comprises a long housing (2). The housing comprises: a long cavity (10) which forms a hollow conductor within the housing; and a microwave window (8) which is arranged in a first end part of the cavity within the housing (2). The microwave window (8) seals the hollow conductor with respect to the combustion chamber, and the cavity comprises a connection element (4) for a high frequency supply conductor, the connection element (4) being formed on a second end part of the cavity that is arranged oppositely to the microwave window (8). The connection element (4) comprises a high frequency inflow crosssection-shaped part (7) which is different from a high frequency outflow crosssection-shaped part formed on the microwave window. A transition part is continuously formed from the high frequency inflow crosssection-shaped part (7) in the first end part of the hollow conductor to the high frequency outflow crosssection-shaped part in the second end part of the hollow conductor. The microwave spark plug according to the present invention is formed such that the microwave spark plug is screwed into typical bore holes for the spark plug, and safely injects microwave energy into a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine.
