The door handle and latch (1) is fitted in the closing edge of a sliding door (4). A plate (13) fixed to the face of the door frame has an opening (14) for receiving and keeping the latch hook (17). The latch plate (16) has a slot (19) opposite the hook (17) and ages a fixed pin (20). Knobs (23) on each side of the latch plate rotate about a fixed axis (24), while the latch plate (16) rotates about an eccentric pin (25). By this, the latch is thrown forward from a rest position within the door to a locked position hooked to the keep (13). The latch mechanism (15) also includes a return spring and lock (37).
