PRODUCTION OF PENTAFLUOROETHANE BY DISPROPORTIONATION OF TETRAFLUOROCHLOROETHANE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing pentafluoroethane (HFC125) having a high purity in a high yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing pentafluoroethane (HFC125) comprises subjecting gaseous tetrafluorochloroethane (HCFC124) to disproportionation to obtain HFC125, wherein the dispropotionation is carried out at a temperature in the range of 200-300 deg.C by feeding hydrogen fluoride(HF) onto a chromium(III) oxide (Cr2O3) catalyst supported on a carrier of aluminum fluoride in such an amount as to keep a mol ratio of HCFC124/HF in the range of 10/1 to 1/1.
