摘要 A method for sensing a chemical This invention relates to a method for de tecting an analyte in a sample. The method comprises the steps of exposing t he sample to a transducer having a pyroelectric or piezoelectric element and electrodes which is capable of transducing a change in energy to an electri cal signal, the transducer having at least one reagent proximal thereto, the reagent having a binding site which is capable of binding the analyte or a complex or derivative of the analyte, wherein at least one of the analyte or the complex or derivative of the analyte has a label attached thereto which is capable of absorbing the electromagnetic radiation generated by the radi ation source to generate energy by non-radiative decay; irradiating the reag ent with a series of pulses of electromagnetic radiation, transducing the en ergy generated into an electrical signal; detecting the electrical signal an d the time delay between each pulse of electromagnetic radiation from the ra diation source and the generation of the electric signal. The time delay bet ween each of the pulses of electromagnetic radiation and the generation of t he electric signal corresponds to the position of the analyte at any of one or more positions at different distances from the surface of the transducer. The label is a nanoparticle comprising a non-conducting core material and a t least one metal shell layer.
