PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stable percarboxylic acid composition applicable to fields such as, sterilization, bleaching, cleaning, and epoxidation and to provide a sterilization method using the composition. SOLUTION: Provided are a solution of a mixed percarboxylic acid prepared by reacting a mixed carboxylic acid containing (A) 10-40 wt.% glutaric acid and (B) 0.1-5 wt.% 2-ethylbutyric acid or 0.1-1 wt.% 2-ethylhexanoic acid or 0.1-1 wt.% octanoic acid with hydrogen peroxide, and a sterilization and disinfection method comprising bringing the solution after or without dilution into contact with an object to be sterilized at 10-60°C for 1-60 min.
