The present invention relates to an input and output module. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the input and output module includes: multiple communication channels individually connecting to one or more field devices; a switch fabric selectively facilitating connection between the one or more field devices and an outer control module by the multiple communication channels; a series communication port connecting the input and output module to a control module in parallel with a second input and output module, wherein the series communication port transmits information between the inputs and output module and the control module; and a parallel communication port independently connecting the input and output module to the control module and transmitting the information between the input and output module and the control module, wherein the parallel communication port transmits the information between the input and output module and the second input and output module. |
