<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrying device capable of easily changing the carrying speed of a recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: Holding plates 16A, 16B are disposed on the upper sides of high-speed conveyor belts 12A, 12B. A holding plate 18 is disposed on the upper surface of a low-speed conveyor belt 14. Circular arrangement holes 17, 19 are formed in the holding plates 16A, 16B and the holding plate 18. Two arrangement holes 19 are formed therein at positions apart in the lateral direction of the plates by a distance slightly shorter than the width of the recording medium S from the arrangement hole 17 on the upstream side in the carrying direction X. Two arrangement holes are also formed therein at position apart by a distance slightly shorter than the width of the recording medium S from the arrangement hole 17 on the downstream side in the carrying direction X. The arrangement holes 19 on the upstream side in the carrying direction X and the arrangement holes 19 on the downstream side are formed at intervals smaller than the width of the recording medium S, and arranged at positions generally matching the upstream side end and the downstream side end of a communication area E.
