PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder achieving improved separation performance by applying a paper separation method using an air flow and certainly separately supplying paper sheets one by one. SOLUTION: The cassette-type paper feeder 20 including a paper sheet storing section 22 loading and storing the paper sheet P, a lift plate 23 arranged inside of the paper sheet storing section 22 and loading the paper sheet P on its upper surface, and a lifting mechanism 50 moving up and down the lift plate 23, is provided with a blowing/separating device 40 prompting separation of the paper sheet P by blowing air into the side surface of a stack of paper from the outside of the end part in a paper sheet width direction orthogonal to a paper sheet feeding direction, of the stack of paper stored in the paper sheet storage section 22. Thereby, air is always blown from the side surface (end portion) of the paper sheet with respect to the stack of paper stocked and the paper sheet P during feeding. Even if separation of the paper sheet P is insufficient at first and conveyance is started with the plurality of paper sheets P overlapped, it is possible to always blow air between the plurality of paper sheets P.
