The controller has a power-MOSFET (14) arranged in a power supply line between a power supply and a load e.g. motor. A control circuit respectively switches on and off the MOSFET based on the receipt of an ON-signal and OFF-signal. Two determining circuits output two signals if an input-to-output voltage of the MOSFET is smaller than a threshold value and the MOSFET is in ON-condition, respectively. A short circuit error detector (120) outputs a short circuit anomaly signal if one of the signals from respective determining circuits is output during receipt of the OFF-signal.
