A power amplification apparatus generates a code for controlling the number of class D power amplifiers that are in operation among a plurality of class D power amplifiers, changes the duty ratio of a carrier wave signal in accordance with output voltage, and amplifies a transmission signal. A code for decreasing the number of class D power amplifiers in operation is generated when the duty ratio of the carrier wave signal is increased, while a code for increasing the number of class D power amplifiers in operation is generated when the duty ratio of the carrier wave signal is decreased. |

1. A power amplification apparatus, comprising:
a controller operative to generate a code for controlling a number of class D power amplifiers that are in operation among a plurality of class D power amplifiers, the code being generated in accordance with a voltage setting signal indicating a target voltage to be output from the power amplification apparatus; a duty ratio converter operative to change a duty ratio of a carrier wave signal in accordance with the target voltage to be output; and an amplifier including the plurality of class D power amplifiers and operative to output a signal of a prescribed voltage using the class D power amplifiers that are in operation, based on the code generated by the controller and the carrier wave signal having the changed duty ratio, wherein: when the duty ratio is increased by the duty ratio converter, the controller generates the code for decreasing the number of class D power amplifiers that are in operation; and when the duty ratio is decreased by the duty ratio converter, the controller generates the code for increasing the number of class D power amplifiers that are in operation. |
