PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely detect a doze of a driver by excluding meandering for avoiding an obstacle, and arithmetically operating an awakening degree by using only a meandering quantity related to the doze when judging a change in a continuous awakening state of the driver on the basis of a monotonous degree, a steering state quantity and the meandering quantity. SOLUTION: A fuzzy inferring part D as an awakening degree inferring means operates after initial operation passes. An awakening degree of a driver is estimated on the basis of a monotonous degree from a travel operation state detecting means A, a steering quantity from a steering quantity calculating means B and a membership function corresponding to a meandering quantity from a meandering detecting means C. In this case, taking-in of meandering data for avoiding an obstacle in a travel traffic lane besides meandering at traffic lane changing time is stopped, relatively small meandering can be excluded, and only meandering related to a doze is selected to arithmetically operate an awakening degree. Thus, a dozing degree of the driver can be more precisely detected, and since a warning is given according to this doze, travel safety can be improved further.
