The invention relates to an apparatus for transporting flat objects. The apparatus comprises a driven endless conveying belt (Fb). Said endless conveying belt (Fb) has a multiplicity of elevations (E1, E2, ...). Each elevation (E1, E2, ...) is connected mechanically to the endless conveying belt (Fb). The conveying belt (Fb) is arranged in such a way that objects to be transported can be laid onto the conveying belt (Fb) and can be taken from the conveying belt (Fb). Each elevation (E1, E2, ...) is so high that an object which lies on the elevation (E1, E2, ...) can be gripped. The elevations (E1, E2, ...) make it possible to grip between an object which lies on at least one elevation (E1, E2, ...) and the conveying belt (Fb).
