A method and system for determining a limit exceedance of an operating parameter in a steam turbine system. Measurement data (220) associated with the operating parameter is received, and a limit exceedance is determined when the rate of change in the received data (220) over a predefined period of time exceeds a predefined limit. A control action is taken when a limit exceedance has been determined.
