The invention describes a method of determining a magnet arrangement (10, 20) for the magnets (M) of a rotor (1) or stator (2) of an electrical machine (3), which method comprises the steps of identifying a number of performance parameters of the electrical machine (3), which performance parameters are to be adjusted; assigning a plurality of neighbouring magnets (M) to a magnet group (G2, G3), wherein a magnet group (G2, G3) comprises a reference magnet (Mref) and at least one further magnet (Ni, M2), which further magnet (M1, M2) is arranged relative to the reference magnet (Mref); identifying a number of distinct magnet arrangement variables (d21, d31, d32, w) for the magnet group (G2, G3), whereby the number of magnet arrangement variables (d21, d31, d32, w) is equal to the number of performance parameters; calculating the value of an arrangement variable (d21, d31, d32, w) according to a desired adjustment of a performance parameter; and-arranging a further magnet (M1, M2) of the magnet group (G2, G3) relative to the reference magnet (Mref) of that magnet group (G2, G3) according to the calculated arrangement variable (d21, d31, d32, w). The invention also describes a method of arranging a plurality of magnets (M) on a rotor (1) or stator (2) of an electrical machine (3). The invention also describes a wind turbine with a generator (3) comprising a rotor (1), a stator (2) and a plurality of magnets (M), arranged on the rotor (1) in such a magnet arrangement (10, 20).
