<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens drive mechanism for an optical pickup having excellent assembly workability and hardly causing malfunction. <P>SOLUTION: A lens drive mechanism 40 for an optical pickup includes a motor 41, a lead screw 42 that is rotated by driving of the motor 41, a nut member 43 that is engaged with a screw portion 421 of the lead screw 42, a lens holding member 44 that holds a lens (not shown) and is moved in accordance with movement of the nut member 43 by rotation of the lead screw 42, and a spring member 47 that is disposed in the vicinity of the motor 41 side end of the screw portion 421 of the lead screw 42 and is sometimes brought into contact with the nut member 43.
