摘要 #CMT# #/CMT# The cavity (6) receives mixed coolants, which draw heat from the casting mold (2) by evaporation. The coolants are combined by pulsing, so forming a mixture immediately ahead of introduction into the cavity (6). The number of pulses, their starting times and pulse durations, are all individually-selectable. The coolant is air, water, or water mixed with air. The mixture is pulsed as a whole, by mixing individual pulses of its constituents. #CMT# : #/CMT# The mixture ratio and/or the pulses are controlled as a function of the casting mold temperature. The coolant used in the final pulse (or pulses), dries the cavity. The gas is air. The equipment includes lines (3, 4) for the coolants. A control unit (1) operates the valves, which in turn control pulsing of the flows. The coolants are combined (5) into a line (7) introducing the coolant mixture into the cavity. Controller and valves are designed to promote pulsed flow. The combiner (5) is less than 0.5 m from the cavity. A thermocouple determines the casting mold temperature. Further thermocouples determine temperatures of zones in the mold. A saving is made in the quantity of cooling medium used. The mixed coolant is introduced in pulses soon after its constituents are combined, to prevent their separation. Droplets in the mixture remain fine, rather than coalescing. Considerable freedom is provided, to control the properties of the pulses. Pulse duration determines the quantity of coolant introduced. The spacing between pulses allows sufficient time for evaporation and removal of steam from the cavity. Air can be introduced initially, to cool without causing violent evaporation. It can also be used at the end of cooling, to dry-out the cavity.
