PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent excessive current from flowing to a battery for supplying power to a motor for outputting power to a drive shaft connected to drive wheels. SOLUTION: A method for controlling the vehicle includes a step of setting an initial torque T0 as a torque guard value Tmax for limiting a torque command value Tm2* corresponding to a request torque Tr* (S110), when the request torque Tr* requested for the drive shaft is abruptly increased during driving by a motor drive mode; and a step of limiting the torque command value Tm2* corresponding to the request torque Tr* (S116). The method includes a step of thereafter easing a limit by gradually increasing the torque guard value Tmax (S126), and a step of releasing the torque guard when a slip is not generated until a predetermined time tref is elapsed from when the limit of the torque is started (S122, S124). Thus, excess current of a battery which may be generated due to generation of a slip by a large torque corresponding to an abrupt increase of the request torque Tr* can be prevented.
