1477777 Extruder cylinder liner SWISS ALUMINIUM Ltd 8 April 1975 [11 April 1974] 14293/75 Heading B5A [Also in Division B3] An extrusion press cylinder liner 3 defines an internal billet receiving chamber 5 of non- circular cross-section and has in the thinnest part of the liner wall at least one groove 6 which runs longitudinally along its inner wall 4 and which is filled with weld metal 7 which behaves elastically. The liner 3 is provided with two opposed grooves 6, each filled with weld metal 7, e.g. austenitic steel, which behaves elastically during extrusion to prevent the liner 3 cracking. The liner 3 may be formed of two halves 9 separated by gaps 10 opening into grooves 6r, which gaps and grooves are filled with weld metal to join the two halves 9 together. In order to prevent the liner 3 moving relative to press cylinders 1, 2, one end is provided with a collar (13) (Fig. 3, not shown) fitting into a recess (11) in the inner cylinder 2 and at the other end a screw threaded ring 14 is screwed into a space between the liner 3 and cylinder 2. The liner 3 may also be shrink fitted to the inner cylinder 2. |
