PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an area light-emitting organic EL display panel which can make a gradation control of a density degree of a displayed image. SOLUTION: The area light-emitting organic EL display panel is provided with a substrate on which a first electrode, an EL layer, and a second electrode are laminated in this order, and a whole of a predetermined area is integrated and illuminated as an image by the first electrode and the second electrode. The panel is provided with an insulating layer, in the predetermined area and between the first and second electrodes in a thickness which can shield emitted light at the time of light emitting, which is patterned so that light-emitting areas are opened and non-light-emitting areas are covered, and furthermore, a light-emitting volume can be controlled when illuminated depending on an area, and which is served as a gradation controlling means to control a lightemitting gradation of an image in the predetermined area.
