Provided is a method for varying a touch detection rate by a touch detection device, the method comprising: detecting a touch as a touch generation means comes into contact with or approaches a touchscreen panel; setting an area including a touch detection point and the remaining area as a first state area and a second state area respectively on the touchscreen panel; performing touch detection operations for the first state area and the second state area, wherein the frequency of performing a touch detection operation only for the first state area is set to an integer multiple of the frequency of performing a touch detection operation for both the first state area and the second state area; when a touch is not detected on the entire touchscreen panel for a predetermined time, setting the entire touchscreen panel as a third state and performing touch detection operations at a lower frequency than when performing the touch detection operations for the first state area and the second state area. |
