摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface enhanced Raman scattering element capable of increasing the intensity of surface enhanced Raman scattering with a suitable nanogap.SOLUTION: A SERS element 2 includes: a substrate 21 having a surface 21a; a fine structure section 24 that is formed on the surface 21a and includes a plurality of pillars 27; and a conductor layer 23 that is formed on the fine structure section 24 and constitutes an optical function section 20 causing a surface enhanced Raman scattering. The conductor layer 23 includes a base section 28 formed along the surface 21a, and a plurality of projections 29 projecting from the base section 28 at positions corresponding to respective pillars 27. The base section 28 includes a plurality of grooves 28a disposed so as to surround respective pillars 27 in the view from the projecting directions of the pillars 27, and an end 29a of each projection 29 is located inside the corresponding groove 28a.
