PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of correcting luminance for an image forming apparatus, with which the problem that a non-uniform image remains on a screen as a result of mutual interference of diffracted light emitted from adjacent diffraction grating-light modulation elements. SOLUTION: The method for correcting light intensity includes: the step (A) of independently measuring a relationship between a drive voltage and the light intensity of the diffracted light of each of the diffraction grating-light modulation elements, and setting a drive voltage first correction value for each diffraction grating-light modulation element so that the light intensity of the diffracted light of each diffraction grating-light modulation element is almost equal to a first predetermined light intensity; the step (B) of applying the drive voltage first correction value to all the diffraction grating-light modulation elements at the same time, and measuring the light intensity of the diffracted light from each diffraction grating-light modulation element; and the step (C) of deciding a drive voltage second correction value for each diffraction grating-light modulation element so that the light intensity measured in the step (B) is almost equal to a second predetermined light intensity.
