PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method whereby molded active carbon easily given a specified shape is produced while suppressing the decrease in micropores in the active carbon. SOLUTION: The method for producing molded active carbon comprises a preparation step for preparing a saccharide gel body by dehydrating a saccharide-containing material, a molding step for press molding the saccharide gel body, and a firing step for subjecting the molded raw material body prepared at the molding step to carbonization and activation. In the preparation step, the saccharide-containing material is dehydrated to be converted into a gellable substance and then is caused to contain a specific medium, e.g. water, giving a saccharide gel body. Being easily deformable and having viscosity of some degree, the saccharide gel body can be molded into a desired shape in the molding step under relatively low pressure. By firing the molded raw material body, it can be carbonized and activated while maintaining the desired shape, giving the molded active carbon. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
