<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for identifying very accurately a position of fixed object such as a container, by a movable object such as a suspension beam, in a short time. <P>SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a position determination device for determining a position of the movable object with respect to the fixed object. The device includes an infrared beam irradiation means 46 fixed onto the movable object to irradiate the fixed object at least partially, a reflected beam reception means 21 fixed onto the movable object, and analytical means 40, 41 for analyzing the reflected beam to define a boundary of an intensity change in a reflected beam. The irradiation means is constituted of at least one light emitting diode, the beam is converged perpendicularly to the fixed object, and an angle thereof is off-set.
