PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing device, method, and recording medium which perform color separation from a basic four-color material system of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black to a light-and-dark six-color material system including a light color material. SOLUTION: The image processing device performs color separation from the basic four-color material system of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black to the light-and-dark six-color material system including the light color material. The device comprises a means for defining output density characteristics with respect to an input color material amount, a means for defining a dark color material amount, a means for defining a light color material amount, a means for calculating a light-and-dark total color material amount depending on the input total color material amount and an ink amount, and a means for obtaining the dark color material amount and the light color material amount from the output density and the light-and-dark total color material amount.
