PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: an organic electroluminescent element having a high an electric current efficiency and manufactured by use of a composition for an organic electroluminescent element, which is high in storage stability and film-forming process stability; and a display device and a luminaire, each using such an organic electroluminescent element.SOLUTION: A composition for an organic electroluminescent element comprises at least a phosphorescent material, a charge-transportable compound, and a phenolic compound having phenolic hydroxyl group, which has a substituent group only at any two positions of 2-nd, 4-th and 6-th positions when the phenolic hydroxyl group is located at the 1-st position.SELECTED DRAWING: None
