A vehicle body side structure that has a sub pillar (2) branched downward from a front pillar (1) and in which corner glass (4) is placed in front of the sub pillar (2). In the structure, the branch portion, from which the sub pillar (2) branches and in which the cross-sectional shape of the front pillar (1) varies, is prevented from becoming a weak point in strength to thereby increase the strength of the front pillar (1) against axial force. To achieve the above, a step-like wall section (23) having an installation surface (24) where the peripheral edge of the corner glass (4) is fixed is provided at that portion of an outer panel (11) that is in front of the sub pillar (2) and is near a joint section (17) on the corner glass (4) side. Further, two ridge sections (34, 35) extending in the longitudinal direction are formed on a stiffener (12) such that either of the two ridge sections (34, 35) is located on the inner side of the step-like wall section (23) of the outer panel (11). The two ridge sections (34, 35), formed on the stiffener (12) at portions in front of the sub pillar (2), are continuous to two ridge sections (39, 40) formed at portions behind the sub pillar (2).
