PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve workability and safety in work in a pit 12. SOLUTION: A ladder 23 composed of a first vertical bar 24, a second vertical bar 25, and steps 26 is inserted between a lower face of a landing sill 16 of an entrance 15 on an upper side of the pit 12 in a shaft 11 of an elevator and a floor surface 22 in the pit. The first vertical bar 24 of the ladder is provided to turn freely, move freely and vertically, and be energized upward for the lower face of the landing sill and the floor surface in the pit. When a worker turns the ladder 23 to the outside of the landing sill 16 and gets on the steps 26, the first and second vertical bars 24, 25 and each step 26 move downward due to worker's weight, and a stopper member 31 at a lower end of the second vertical bar 25 is abutted on the floor surface 22 in the pit, thereby stabilizing the ladder 23.
