A suction device (10) for removing fluid and solid material during a surgical operation is provided. The suction device (10) comprises a handle (11) having a proximal end (12) and a distal end (13). The handle proximal end (12) has an opening (14) connectable to a section source. An elongate tip (18) is attached to the handle distal end (13) and having a suction tip opening (21) at a free end thereof (20). A suction conduit (22) extends longitudinally through the tip (18) and the handle (11) to define a suction path from the suction tip opening (21) to the opening (14) of the handle proximal end (12). The suction conduit (22) has an increasing transverse cross-sectional area as it extends from the suction tip opening (21) to the opening (14) of the handle, proximal end (12) mat least one of the tip (18) and the handle (11). |
