PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure sufficient image quality and recording speed and to realize a low cost image signal processing circuit having a simple structure in terms of an image forming apparatus for forming an image by ejecting toner by means of an electric field. SOLUTION: In this image forming apparatus, toner 2 supplied from a toner carrier body 1 by applying an image signal voltage to a control electrode 10 in accordance with an image signal is applied to an image receiving means 7 through a toner pass-through hole 3. The image signal voltage consists of a plurality of pulse voltages corresponding to gradation of the image signal. The number of pulse voltages is varied in accordance with the image signal which is applied with the correction for varying the gradation of the image signal and the pulse widths of the pulse voltages are varied so that the applying time period of the image signal voltage is changed.
