PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique of locally controlling a glossiness within the same page without separately using a gloss material in a recorder. SOLUTION: The recorder comprises a designating means which designates a high/low level of the glossiness corresponding to each region of image data formed on a recording medium, a memory means which stores at least two or more mask patterns corresponding to multi-pass recording of mutually different numbers of times not over M times by dividing recording element arrays for each recording color component to M, an assigning means which assigns the mask pattern corresponding to a small number of times for the region where the glossiness is set high, and which assigns the mask pattern corresponding to a large number of times for the region where the glossiness is set low, a recording pattern generating means which generates a recording pattern on the basis of image data of each recording color component and the assigned mask pattern, and a recording control means which sequentially conveys the recording medium in a sub scan direction by 1/M of a recordable width through one scanning motion of the recording element arrays every time recording is carried out by scanning driving the recording head according to each recording pattern.
