<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring instrument capable of more precisely performing measurement or medical treatment without relying on the perception or memory of an operator when a region not directly observable is examined in its shape (depth, length, an angle, etc.) or medically treated, and an angle and distance detector used therein. <P>SOLUTION: A direction indicating auxiliary means (7, 70 or 80) to be pointed to a reference direction is attached to the region, which is positioned at the tip part (2 or 91) of a manually operable implement for the purpose of examination or medical treatment or in the vicinity thereof, in a freely shakable manner.
