The purpose of the present invention is to provide a field sequential liquid crystal display device capable of suppressing the reduction in image quality due to the response characteristics of liquid crystals. A liquid crystal display device is provided with a liquid crystal panel for displaying an image composed of a plurality of pixels, a gradation value compression unit for carrying out a compression process, which is a process for correcting input gradation data to reduce the difference between the maximum gradation value and the minimum gradation value, thereby generating compressed data, and a liquid crystal panel drive unit for driving the liquid crystal panel on the basis of the compressed data. The gradation value compression unit carries out the compression process so that the gradation values change at the same ratio in the input gradation data for a plurality of colors corresponding to a plurality of fields composing a single frame period. |
