A network-based system for backing up and restoring data from an operations centre 210 of a utility data centre 300 comprises a number of subsystems (335, 340, 345, 350, 355), which could be database systems, located in the operations centre 210, and a cell manager 240 located in a utility controller 220 and coupled to each of the subsystems (335, 340, 345, 350, 355) through a designated port in a firewall (245, 255). The system also includes a media agent 260, coupled to each of the subsystems (335, 340, 345, 350, 355) through the firewall port 245, 255 and to the cell manager 240, configured to receive data from the subsystems (335, 340, 345, 350, 355) for forwarding to an archival storage device 270. The cell manager 240 could, at a designated time, cause pre-backup and post-backup scripts to be run on a subsystem. These scripts could enable an application running on a subsystem to be temporarily suspended whilst the backup process is running. |
