PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device capable of emitting white light from a light emitting element by combining a color light emitted from a luminous layer of a light emitting device and a color light in the other wavelength band. SOLUTION: In an organic EL device 1, a positive electrode layer 12 made of ITO, a hole-injection layer 13 made of a polymeric material, a luminous layer 15 made of the polymeric material, an electron injection layer 16 and a cathode layer 17 are laminated in this order on an upper layer side of a substrate 11 to form an organic EL element 10. An intermediate layer 14 containing a dopant receiving a part of blue light generated by the luminous layer 15 for generating yellow to orange light is formed between the hole-injection layer 13 and the luminous layer 15, the blue light from the luminous layer 15 and the yellow to orange light generated by the dopant are combined to emit white light.
