A system for providing a ring back tone and a method for providing the ring back tone by using the same are provided to supply a subscriber of a call waiting service with various types of ring back tones such as music or melody, thereby providing the subscriber with a pleasant atmosphere. A system for providing a ring back tone comprises the followings: plural mobile communication terminals(11,13,15); plural BTSs(Base Transceiver Stations)(21,23,25); plural BSCs(Base Station Controllers)(31,33,35); plural MSCs(Mobile Switching Centers)(51,53) which processes signals transmitted/received to/from the BTS, controls a wireless/wire link so that the BTS can be efficiently operated, and is connected even to the mobile communication terminal and the other communication network; a ring back tone server(71) which stores the ring back tones such as music and voices and transmits the ring back tone to a transmitting party's mobile communication terminal(13) during call connection; and a ring back tone providing server(73) which stores the ring back tone such as music or a melody, and transmits the ring back tone to the mobile communication terminal which is in a call waiting state during communication between the mobile communication terminals.
