<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an actuator capable of performing an operation of sliding its tip along a flat surface, in which the operation of the tip is less restrained as compared with the conventional actuators. <P>SOLUTION: An electrostrictive actuator (40) includes: first and second electrostrictive elements each composed of an electrostrictive material layer and two electrodes each arranged on each of both faces of the electrostrictive material layer, and a base material bonded to one face of the electrostrictive material layer via one of the electrodes; and a support member supporting the first and second electrostrictive elements. In the electrostrictive actuator (40), a first electrostrictive element (10) is at least partially bent by setting an electrostrictive material layer (1) side thereof as a convex side, and a second electrostrictive element (20) is at least partially bent by setting a base material (15) side thereof as a convex side. The first and second electrostrictive elements (10 and 20) are arranged in parallel so that the base materials each (5 and 15) face each other.
