PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for continuously casting a steel, realizing high efficiency and high productivity by which in the case of performing the casting of a steel kind in a peritectic zone steel of 0.08-0.14 mass% C content having large solidified shrinkage, or the casting of steel kind containing special elements, such as Nb, V, or in the case of high speed casting, the abnormality of solidified shell in fear, particularly, a break-out according to the solidified delay around the corner part of a mold is prevented from happening. SOLUTION: In the method for continuously casting the steel, by which a cast slab is produced while solidifying molten steel supplied into a mold 10 for continuous casting, and drawing downward of the mold 10, the range of 1-20 mm in the plate thickness of the mold 10, an optical fiber sensor 12 is protected with a metal-made pipe material 11 having 0.2-6 mm inner diameter and a cross sectional void rate of this metal-made pipe material 11 is made to be 40-99.7% and provided with a detecting part 15 detectable to the variation of a wave length caused by the temperature variation of the mold 10, is arranged, and with this sensor, the temperature variation is measured.
